![]() When you stick to the sides, it usually has three options: the Wings strike (which can be easily countered with foresight as its startup is very slow), the Rolling body slam and the Wide claw sweep. So dodging from the front to the side and vice versa is what you want to do, while keeping your attacks going. Also, you want to attack the head and forelegs as much as possible. Standing there only makes it easier to predict. Which means you shouldn't be there, right? Wrong. Yeah, I know what you want to say: "What the hell does that even mean?" It's simple, really.Īlmost all of Nergi's attacks come at you when you're directly in front of it or on the side. The key to successfully hunt this Elder, is to be able to move like a pendulum. If you're having a hard time, you can hit Nergi there, although you'll deal considerably less damage. There's only one soft spot that you can rely on when you're in a pinch: the hindlegs don't have spikes, so they'll never harden. It's only useful to avoid ending up wide open and getting punished. Do remember that even if your attack won't be deflected, the damage dealt will be 1/4, and your sharpness will decrease twice the regular amount. Chances are that you won't have the decoration as it's extremely rare, so the only way to put your hands on that skill (which allows you not to bounce regardless of sharpness or monsters gimmick) is thanks to the azure rathalos set bonus. If you have problems doing that (and I did when I first met spikey boy/senator), there's an easy way out: mind's eye. Naturally, remember to take advantage of your spirit blade attacks as they all have innate mind's eye, so that should help a bit. So, how do you prevent this? There's only one way to do that: fully destroy the spikes on that specific part of the body before Nergi can make them harden. ![]() ![]() When spikes become black, you're in for a world of hurt, as your attacks will bounce, even if you're sporting white sharpness. So, what's bad about it? When Nergi regrows its spikes, they'll eventually blacken and harden in response to physical trauma (*Senator Armstrong shouting 'NANOMACHINES, SON!' in the distance*). Nergi's power, "Regrowth", allows it to replace the spikes on its body once they're partially damaged (but not broken), just like sharks constantly change their teeth irl. I won't go over the details here, as we'll have the chance to discuss each of those powers in the following guides. First of all, as this is the first Elder guide, let me introduce a new section.Įach Elder Dragon in the game possesses a specific ability of its own. ![]()
